I have been getting many pleads from students and friends to start a blog about nutrition. 6 years ago, my oldest was diagnosed with ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) I did not want to medicate him. I thought how will he ever learn how to deal with it if we always mask the symptoms; so I started looking for other alternatives. This is where I found nutrition. We started eating organic foods and more plant based foods before it became the “trendy” thing to do. We made a full lifestyle change. We started going to a chiropractor as this was one of the alternatives to medicine I learned about. As a family we see a chiropractor every week for “maintenance”.

Whether you are new to choosing a healthy lifestyle or well seasoned I hope you find this site helpful. Today’s post is just about where to begin.

First of all, I recommend drinking half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. Get a BPA free or glass reusable water bottle. Start early in the day, first thing in the morning. (If you weigh 150 lbs. you need to drink 75 ounces of water a day, 180 lbs. drink 90 ounces of water, you get the idea?) There are apps available for your smart phone that help you keep track. I use waterlogged (i-phone)

Next you want to eliminate any foods from your diet with the following ingredients:

  • High Frutose Corn Syrup
  • Aspartame
  • MSG (Monosodium glutamate) AKA hydrolyzed vegetable protein
  • Colors with #’s (red #40, blue #1, yellow #6 etc.)
  • Nitrates (lunch meats, hotdogs, sausage, bacon)
  • Hydrogenated Oils
  • BHT (Butylated hydroxytoluene)

Always buy the following fruits and vegetables organic as they are what is called the “Dirty Dozen” for having the highest number of pesticides.

  • Peaches
  • Apples
  • Sweet Bell Peppers
  • Celery
  • Nectarines
  • Strawberries
  • Cherries
  • Pears
  • Grapes (Imported)
  • Spinach
  • Lettuce
  • Potatoes

So that’s it for today’s post, really simple, easy way to start moving towards your “healthy lifestyle”.
